The Challenge

With over 50,000 visitors to the show across 4 days, the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show needed a wireless network that would provide a reliable, stable and fast connection for vendors. In addition, they wanted to offer fully free Wi-Fi to event attendees in exchange for an email address that can be built into their marketing database.

As an annual event, the Sanctuary Cove team requested a permanent solution that will provide wireless on a permanent basis throughout the year to service all visitors and businesses in the village, while retaining the ability to provide coverage to all attendees of the boat show each year.

As part of their key requirements, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show needed:

  • Reliable Vendor Wi-Fi

  • Public Wi-Fi with Email Capture

  • Custom Splash Page with Event Sponsors

  • Wi-Fi access available to entire district throughout the year

  • High concurrent user capacity to cater for over 15,000 people per day in a dense location

The solution presented also needed to be scalable with future technology and capable of handling an increasing amount of concurrent users year after year as part of the large boat show event.

The Solution

In order to provide a reliable wireless connection to such a large area whilst still being capable of handling a high amount of concurrent users, Myport implemented a unique triple radio solution throughout the venue.

Using a dedicated 5Ghz backhaul to provide a reliable connection over a wireless mesh to each access point, Myport created a complex network of specifically tuned devices to provide optimal coverage from a central data injection point.

14 External weather sealed, triple radio access points were deployed strategically throughout the venue based on the results of a thorough site survey and deployment test. By deploying a triple radio solution, Myport was able to provide a reliable dual band solution to the general public.

In addition to the wireless coverage, Myport also implemented an email capture system via a customised splash page to allow the general public to access the internet free of charge. This email capture portal saves data to a database that Myport provided to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show to use for marketing and communication with clients throughout the year.

During the event itself, Myport also provides on-site technicians in conjunction with our monitoring system to offer swift response times to any faults to ensure an optimal experience for all visitors at the show.

As one of the largest boating sales events in Australia, it is crucial that all vendors have a reliable connection when they need it, every time. Myport implemented a 4G redundant backup system to pick up the slack in case of any failure, as well as using smart mesh technology to re-direct access point backhauls if any device drops offline.

The Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show is an annual four-day event staged at Sanctuary Cove on Australia’s Gold Coast and has become the premier Boat Show event in Australia.

The Benefits

By implementing a permanent wireless solution through the Sanctuary Cove village, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show has significantly reduced its annual installation and planning costs for the wireless network. The permanent solution now provides quality wireless connections to visitors to the Sanctuary Cove village throughout the year, creating a boost for the local economy and attracting more repeat visitors.

Offering free Wi-Fi in exchange for a contact email address to the general public during the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show event has created great benefits to both visitors and event organisers. The captured email addresses are easily available in an updated, online database that is now used for marketing the event and communications from vendors throughout the year.

The reliable Wi-Fi connection has now become an essential part of trade during the event, with vendors using the high speed connection to communicate efficiently and bypass the heavily congested mobile networks caused by the crowds.
